Brewers edge D'Backs

Baseball Betting Lines

07/02/2008 - Phoenix, AZ (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - J.J. Hardy hit a pair of home runs as Milwaukee clubbed Arizona, 8-6, in the second contest of a four-game set at Chase Field.

Jeff Suppan (5-6) benefited from Hardy's big night, collecting the victory after surrendering five runs on nine hits with two walks in five frames. Joe Dillon hit a two-run home run with two runs scored and Corey Hart ended 3- for-5 with two runs scored for the Brewers.

Arizona still hasn't won back-to-back games since June 18-19 after Randy Johnson (4-7) was hit for seven runs and eight hits over 3 2/3 frames. Conor Jackson did most of the damage, as he finished 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI.

The walking wounded lost two more key players prior to the contest. Eric Byrnes, saddled with hamstring injuries most of the season, was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring injury and Chris Snyder joined him with a left testicular fracture suffered when a foul ball struck him in Monday's game. Robby Hammock and pitcher Connor Robertson were recalled to take the vacated roster spots.

Hardy hit his first home run, a two-run spot, as part of a three-run first frame. Hart singled, stole a pair of bases and scored on Mike Rivera's base hit.

Jackson's RBI single put Arizona on the scoreboard in the home half of the frame before Milwaukee put another three-spot up in the second frame. Jason Kendall singled to begin the inning then Dillon drilled a two-run homer. Hardy followed with a solo shot, his eighth of the campaign.

Hardy was again in the middle of the action in the fourth, walking and stealing second in front of Hart's run-scoring base hit.

Arizona sneaked back into the game with a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth frames. Jackson singled, Chad Tracy walked and Chris Young singled to load the bases in front of Miguel Montero's run-scoring hit. Augie Ojeda's RBI groundout cut the deficit to 7-3.

Jackson's two-run home run in the fifth made the score 7-5. Rivera's double followed Hart's double, leading to another run for an 8-6 game. Arizona put up its last run in the bottom of the eighth on Young's RBI groundout.

Salomon Torres pitched the ninth for his 14th save.

MySportsbook.com betting odds favor Europe in 2007 Ryder Cup

September 19, 2007 – Despite holding a decided edge in the all-time series, with 24 wins, 2 ties and 10 losses, Team USA is the underdog again heading into the Ryder Cup in Kidare, Ireland this weekend, according to MySportsbook.com.  The Europeans have captured four of the past five editions, including their largest victory ever, an 18 ½ to 9 ½ thumping in Michigan in 2004. Current betting odds on the 2007 Ryder Cup favor the Europeans to continue their winning ways; they are a 4-5 bet to take the title, compared to 6-5 for the Americans.

Despite being knocked out in the first round of World Match play by Shaun Micheel, Tiger Woods is predicted to lead the US charge and be their highest point scorer for the week, with odds listed at 9-4 that he outpoints all other American players, including Jim Furyk, Phil Mickelson and Chris DiMarco to  name a  few.  Team USA has four relatively unknown players on the roster but all four are 2007 tournament winners and have posted some of season’s best performances, each earning over $1.5 million on the PGA TOUR.  They include Zach Johnson, Vaughan Taylor, JJ Henry and Brett Wetterich.

The experienced European squad includes the likes of Luke Donald, Sergio Garcia, Padraig Harrington, Jose Maria Olazabal and Darren Clarke, who’s emotions will be tested after the passing of his wife to a battle with cancer.  Donald and Garcia are in particularly good form and each is a 5-1 bet to lead the European squad in the points race. Donald has proven he can go head to head with Woods at a major event after a run for the $1.2 million purse at the PGA Championship. Garcia’s Ryder Cup credentials prove he’s ready for battle too.
